LOS ANGELES - where we had breakfast
Los Angeles is such a big city, that even though we spent 5 days there we didn’t manage to check out half the places we wanted to! The ones you can find below are still to be considered are top choices for breakfast / brunch or coffee:
Dinette: located in the heart of Echo Park, this is somewhere you must go for breakfast or even lunch. The area is a bit sketchy, and the place only offers outdoor seating right on the street. In all honesty, after seeing all the pictures from this place on Instagram, we were a little disappointed as we thought it’d be different; but still, the great food makes it worth the stop. The best part were definitely the waffles with whipped cream and strawberries and the ones with bacon and poached eggs! Also, if you’re an avo toast lover… this is the place to go!
Sqirl: located in Silver Lake, Sqirl offers breakfast every day till 4p.m.! You order inside, but you can also eat outside in their small backyard. The menu offers a great selection of simple items reinvented in a different way; highly suggested is the French Toast… it was so big and tasty it really fills you up for a long day of exploring around the city!
The Commissary is located on the second floor of The LINE hotel in Koreatown. It is a greenhouse set beside a shimmering pool. They serve breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, but we came here for breakfast. The food was okay, but what makes this place extra special is the design and the ambiance… definitely doesn’t feel like being in the center of a chaotic city!
Republique is definitely one of our favorite places in Los Angeles, especially for their weekend brunch offer! Unless you get there really really (really) early… the place will be packed and you’ll have to wait in line before you can sit down and order your food, but we can assure you it’s worth the wait. While you wait, you can go over their menu and decide what to get before you sit down at a table of your choice. Designed to make you feel like you’re in a French bistro, you must get their delicious smoked salmon toast and ricotta toast!
If you’re in DTLA you can’t miss the lovely Blacktop Coffee. Located on a quiet street in the Arts District, the place is really small, but the wood benches outside make it such a nice place to be for an early morning cup of coffee. They’re mostly known for their pastries… on top of my mind comes the kouign-amann.
Staying in such lovely hotels, sometimes we thought it’d be silly to leave the property instead of enjoying breakfast in our rooms, so feel free to check out our post on where to stay for more tips.
