SAN FRANCISCO - what we saw
As you might’ve seen on instagram, a few weeks ago we embarked on a long awaited trip to California (#SFtoLAroadtrip!!!).
We are so happy to finally be able to cross this California road trip off our bucket list, considering it’s one of those trips we’d been dreaming about for ages! A huge thank you goes to Visit California and Master Consulting FL for making this dream trip along the West Coast possible!
Our first stop was San Francisco.
San Francisco is a destination we’d been wanting to visit for so long, and getting to see the Golden Gate in person for the first time is one of those incredible moments we’ll never forget.
After a long day driving around town and hopping from coffee shop to coffee shop, we decided to head over to the bridge for sunset and, as you can see in the pictures below (that unfortunately don’t do it justice!), the colors and the atmosphere were breathtaking. The photos were taken at Battery Spencer, Marina County, and if you want to get the best angle you need to climb over a small net and walk down until you reach a small cliff; just be careful not to fall… it’s not the safest area (it's actually forbidden to go there) and it’s very windy, so make sure you bring a jacket!
The scenery was so amazing that we decided to head back there the morning after for sunrise; unfortunately the light wasn’t that good but this view is definitely something worth waking up early for (and if you’ve been up since 4am because of jet-lag it certainly won’t be a problem).
But, since all good things come in three’s, we decided to go back to the Golden Gate for a third time... for sunset again! Although, this time we opted for a different spot: Marshall Beach. We’d been warned it’d take a while to get there and that there was going to be some hiking to do, but nothing too bad and you can get a good workout in on the way up! As you can see in the photos the view was amazing and we honestly couldn’t stop taking pictures until it got dark… these Californian sunsets are something else!
Staying downtown, we’d walk by the cablecars every day (we even spotted some that come from Milan!), so one morning we decided to finally get in line and hop on the quite popular Powell-Mason Cable Car and ride all the way to the end of the line... hopefully you caught a few glimpses of our ride on Snapchat or our IG stories! It was so fun to ride on one of these in the US, but I’m pretty sure it must not be as fun for the people of SF whom have to deal with the thousands of tourists that fill these up every day!
Probably our second favorite in San Francisco were the very well known Painted Ladies (also featured in the opening credits of the show Full House). They were, along the Golden Gate Bridge, another spot we decided to check out more than once in order to get good photos. These houses are so cute, can you imagine living there?
On our last day we took the ferry to Alcatraz and, of course, considering that we always have the worst luck it was raining cats and dogs, so we had to buy ponchos there to walk around in order to try and stay dry. This was definitely an interesting visit that we highly suggest, it’s a little crowded so you should try and get tickets a few days in advance!
