ZÜRICH through the seasons and during the magic of Christmas
Zürich is one of our favorite cities in Switzerland. We like it so much, that we like to go back multiple times a year. In 2017 we only got to visit it twice, first in September, and then we went back in December.
As a lot of you have been asking us for a few recommendations on what to do in Zürich, we thought you might be interested in reading a bit more about our experience!
First of all, if you want to get what is probably the best picture in Zürich, you should wake up before sunrise and walk up to Lindenhof. Not only will you get amazing images up here, but it’s also nice to enjoy the view over all the rooftops with your own eyes!
You can see it below both in the Summer and in Winter time during a snowstorm… which version do you like best?
After that, you should definitely walk around The Old Town before everyone else awakes; the beautiful cobblestone streets, the stunning buildings and the overall quiet will make you feel like you’re living a fairytale (especially when it snows!!!).
One day, @visitzurich brought us on a one day trip outside of Zürich. We took a train and arrived at the bottom of this beautiful mountain in Flumserberg, where we spent our afternoon sledding. At first we were scared, but it was actually so fun!
We ended the day taking another cable car that brought us all the way up … mountain. To be completely honest, it was freezing! It felt like it was December and not September at all. But, the views and landscapes are fantastic, as was the restaurant where we had dinner. So it’s definitely worth resisting the cold… just make sure you bring a hat! ;)
Cafe Henrici is located in The Old Town, and our favorite thing to get is the Flammkuchen, a typical dish composed of bread dough rolled out very thinly and covered with different toppings (make sure you try the one with bacon). It’s quite pricey, just like everything else in Switzerland, but it’s a great place for brunch / lunch.
BANK is located a bit further outside the Old Town, but you will get there in around 15 minutes walking distance from the main station. The location is beautiful! It’s big and the food is delicious. Some might complain the portions are small, so we suggest trying a little bit of everything just to feel satisfied. And don’t forget to try the delicious pastries!
One place we love for coffee is La Stanza, it’s always incredibly packed, but we’ve come to the conclusion that it’s because their coffee is the best.
CHRISTMAS IN ZÜRICH
Switzerland is famous for its Christmas markets… but Zürich has got to be the most magical city during Christmas!
There are gorgeous lights everywhere. Lucy lights up Zürich sky with diamonds and it’s incredible! This was our second year in Zürich during Christmas, and we loved it just as much as the first time around. We got to spend a bit more time here, as we had two full days and we enjoyed every last second of it!
One of our favorite things is The Fairytale Tram (Märlitram) and we never get tired of waiting for it to pass by!
On our last day, we were so lucky that Zürich was hit by a huge snowstorm, so we started walking all over the city in the early a.m. to get some photos and look how spectacular everything looked!
